Seven Planets is back!
We invite you to PÅock on September 21 for the Dramma Per Musica festival!
The Baroque Orchestra Cornu Copiae, conducted by Karolina HabaÅo, together with dancers from the Varsavia Galante ensemble, brought back to life the forgotten Dresden opera-ballet "Seven Planets". It features personifications of the celestial bodies known at the time: Saturn, Jupiter, Mars, the Sun, Venus, Mercury and the Moon. Each of them was accompanied by dancers in the roles of kings, beggars, witches, shepherds, suitors, Amazons, and even seasons and directions of the world. The multi-part piece had many authors of music and librettos, perhaps that is why it shared the fate of many occasional compositions of the time and has probably not been performed since its carnival premiere in 1678. When preparing a new adaptation in 2022, Polish artists decided to present a slightly more up-to-date vision of the work, which is why in the dance parts, enriched with French music from the era, we will see completely contemporary scenes from the love relationship of two people.
The magnificent MaÅachowianka Aula is an excellent place for opera-ballet, and that is where we will inaugurate the PÅock part of the Festival on Saturday, September 21, at 6:00 p.m.
